the journal: what to pack for a women’s creative retreat in morocco
Hello there soul sister,
Our next retreat is just six weeks away, and I couldn't be more excited. As the countdown begins, I want to help our soul sisters prepare for the adventure ahead so they can fully embrace the experience. Thoughtful packing will not only make the journey smoother and more comfortable but will also allow them to be present for every magical moment.
With that in mind, let me share with you what I shared with our attendees—a carefully curated packing list…
retreat essentials
an open mind
The most important thing to “pack” is an open mind. This retreat is all about exploration, connection, and creativity. Attendees are encouraged to flow through the creative sessions, experiment with new mediums, and stay curious rather than judgmental.
a journal
Each day will be filled with new discoveries and creative insights. A journal will be provided in the welcome bag, but those who prefer their own are welcome to bring it along.
clothing & comfort
layers, layers, layers
Temperatures shift throughout the day, so dressing in layers is key. T-shirts, sweaters, cardigans, hoodies, base layers, and a fleece jacket will ensure comfort—especially for cool desert evenings by the bonfire.
modest clothing
Moroccan culture leans toward modesty, and it’s important to be mindful of this, especially when exploring the Medina. Outfits should avoid being too low-cut or revealing. If there are any questions about what’s appropriate, I’m happy to provide guidance.
comfortable walking shoes
Closed-toe walking shoes or supportive sandals are recommended for exploring Marrakech’s bustling souks and the serene desert landscapes.
swimwear & flip-flops
Since pools will be available in both the desert and the medina, swimwear is essential. Modest bathing suits are preferred—no thong bottoms, please.
something special to wear
For the final evening in Agafay, attendees are encouraged to bring an outfit or accessory that represents their ancestry and personal style—something that makes them feel beautiful and confident. This could be a cultural dress, a cherished piece of jewelry, or anything meaningful.
must-haves
sun protection
A wide-brimmed hat, sunglasses, and high-SPF sunscreen are must-haves for time under the Moroccan sun. Protecting the skin is essential!
universal adapter
Morocco uses European-style plugs (Type C & E). Travelers from outside Europe should bring an adapter to keep their devices charged.
power banks
A portable power bank is highly recommended, especially for days spent exploring with limited access to outlets.
headphones & earplugs
Since rooms will be shared, bringing earplugs or noise-canceling headphones might be helpful for those sensitive to sound.
things to consider
sim card
While wifi is available at our accommodations, it is limited—offering a wonderful opportunity to disconnect and relax. However, for those who need to stay connected, getting a local SIM card upon arrival is recommended.
SIM cards can be purchased right after baggage claim at the airport, where kiosks offer various plans for mobile data throughout the stay.
Recommended networks: Orange or Inwi.
moroccan currency
For the best exchange rate, withdrawing cash from an ATM upon arrival is advised. ATMs are available after baggage claim in the airport—just be sure to select the bank’s exchange rate when withdrawing. While currency exchange counters are also an option, their rates are typically less favorable.
Some ATMs may experience issues, so carrying a small amount of euros, dollars, or pounds as a backup is a smart precaution.
There are no hidden costs at the retreat, but for any extras, attendees should note:
Our accommodations—BE AGAFAY and BE MARRAKECH—accept credit cards.
For transportation outside the retreat and shopping in the souks (where bargaining is common), cash is preferred.
Carrying cash will make transactions smoother and help secure the best deals while exploring Morocco!
your essential toolkit
This retreat is more than just a getaway—it’s an opportunity to step away from daily routines and fully immerse in creativity, connection, and self-discovery. Throughout the experience, attendees will have the chance to explore new creative mediums, engage in meaningful conversations, and find inspiration in the beauty of Morocco’s landscapes and culture.
Mindful packing ensures comfort and preparation, allowing everyone to be fully present—from sunrise reflections in the desert to spontaneous creative breakthroughs. A suitcase isn’t just about clothes and essentials—it’s a toolkit for the journey. Packing items that support creativity, comfort, and self-expression will enhance the overall experience.
And most importantly, the most valuable thing to bring is an open heart. The true magic of this retreat isn’t in what’s packed but in what’s gained—new perspectives, creative inspiration, meaningful connections, and memories that will last a lifetime.
